History
The
Houston Lutheran Chorale is made of members from over twenty
congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Rehearsals
are held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas under
the direction of Jason Mangels on scheduled Sunday afternoons. If

in 1985 under the direction of Metford Mountford, the Houston
Lutheran Chorale has completed its 21st year of existence and has
carried the Gospel "in song" throughout Texas, Missouri,
Illinois, Michigan, and California. The Chorale has toured
Germany, France, and Austria and participated in festivals in
Coventry, England, and Salzburg, Austria and was included in NBC
Christmas Specials in 1986 and 1988. The music of the Chorale is
broadcast over the airwaves of the international ministry of The
Lutheran Hour. In
December of 1991 the Chorale performed Giacomo Puccini's Messa di
Gloria in Carnegie Hall, New York City, under the direction of Mr.
Mountford. In July, 1995, the choir participated in the Salzburg
Church Music Festival in Salzburg, Austria, and in June of 2000,
the Chorale attended the International Church Music Festival in Coventry,
England. In Coventry, under the direction of Sir David Willcocks,
a world-renowned master conductor, they participated in a concert
by over 500 singers from around the world. The concert was shown
on July 15 on BBC in Britain. On January 4, 2004, Metford Mountford joined the heavenly chorale after a valiant battle with cancer. A search committee was formed in March 2004, culminating in the selection of Jason Mangels as Director. After the hiatus in early 2004, the Chorale resumed rehearsals in September, and plans to continue reaching out to all in their ministry through song.
